For those Ready to Move through Trauma and Grief – Not Around It

If sitting still with your grief feels impossible… you’re not alone. This retreat offers a different way – one that meets you in motion.

Through skiing, you’ll reconnect with your body, your breath, and moments of focus and flow – creating space from the intensity of what you’ve been carrying.

Through EMDR, you’ll begin to process the trauma in a way that feels contained, supported, and manageable.

And unlike traditional retreats, you’re not left to figure it out alone. You’re supported throughout the day – on the slopes, over meals, and in the moments in between… discovering that even within grief, there can be strength, clarity, and moments of feeling alive again.

This Retreat is for you if:

  • You’ve been carrying the weight of a traumatic loss for some time… and part of you knows you can’t keep living like this.
  • You experience flashbacks, guilt, or shame you rarely speak about – and can feel how much your body is still holding.
  • You don’t just want to talk about your grief anymore. You want a way to move through it.
  • You feel drawn to the mountains – to space and movement.
  • You may be an experienced skiier – perhaps with memories of skiing with the person you lost – and want to reconnect with that feeling, in a way that feels supported and safe.
  • Or you’re ready to learn, knowing you’ll be fully guided and cared for as you build confidence on the slopes.
  • You’re open to doing something different – something that involves your body, your mind, and your environment.
  • You’re curious about your own resilience – and ready to explore your strength, with the right support around you.
  • You’re ready to be supported not just in sessions, but throughout the day – on the slopes, over meals, and in the moments in between.
  • You’re ready to move forward – not by leaving your grief behind, but by learning how to carry it differently.

Imagine waking up to crisp mountain air and vast alpine views – stepping into a day that invites both movement and release whilst being fully held.

Your mornings are spent on the slopes, where rhythm, focus, and flow create space from the noise in your mind – moments where you can breathe, feel, and even experience glimpses of freedom again.

In the afternoons, you’ll be gently guided through EMDR sessions,
helping your nervous system process the trauma and grief your body has been holding. This is where movement meets healing. Where you begin to loosen the weight you’ve been carrying, reconnect with yourself, and rediscover a sense of strength and clarity.

This Retreat is Not For You if…

  • You’re looking for a quick fix or a way to bypass your grief or trauma.
  • You don’t feel ready – at least on some level – to explore the emotional impact of your loss.
  • You would find it difficult to be in a space where loss is spoken about openly and compassionately.
  • You are in the very early stages of grief and feel you may need more one-to-one or stabilising support first.
  • You’re not open to approaches that involve both the mind and body, including trauma-informed practices and EMDR.
  • You feel strongly that you need to stay in control at all times, and are not open to moments of vulnerability within a supported environment.
  • You’re not in a place where you can commit the time, energy, and emotional investment this experience invites.

If you’re unsure, you’re very welcome to reach out – we’re happy to help you decide whether this feels like the right step for you.

Skiing That Meets You Where You Are

Whether you’re completely new to skiing or already confident on the slopes, you’ll be supported at the level that’s right for you.

This is not a typical ski experience where your lesson ends and you’re left to navigate the mountain alone.

Instead, you’ll be cared for by a dedicated ski team throughout the day – on the lifts, on the slopes, and in the moments in between. This allows for continuous guidance, real-time feedback, and a more relaxed, supported way of learning.

You’ll be placed in a small group of no more than six people, ensuring personalised attention, steady progression, and space to build confidence at your own pace.

With a maximum of 20 participants on the retreat, the experience remains intimate, connected, and carefully held – both on and off the slopes.

Come Alone – or With Someone You Trust

You’re welcome to attend on your own, or bring a partner, friend, or family member for additional support.

They don’t need to have experienced the same loss – or be the same level of skiing –  but they’ll be part of the wider retreat experience, sharing time on the slopes and in the relaxed, supportive environment we create together.

What Awaits You

Time on the Slopes – At Your Level

Ski each morning in small groups of no more than six, guided by highly experienced instructors with over 100 years of combined teaching experience. Whether you’re a complete beginner or more advanced, you’ll be supported to build confidence, find your rhythm, and enjoy the slopes at a pace that feels right for you.

A Setting Designed for Every Skier

Set across the interconnected mountains of Temù, Ponte di Legno, and Passo Tonale, the resort offers a diverse range of well-maintained runs for all abilities.

From gentle slopes for building confidence to more varied terrain for progression, you’ll be guided in a way that helps you feel both supported and challenged at the right level.

Effortless, Fully Supported Days

Your ski pass, ski boots and ski hire, meals and daily transport to the slopes are all included, allowing you to focus fully on the experience without the stress of logistics.

Lunch in the Mountains

Each day, you’ll pause at lunchtime to warm up, refuel, and take in the mountain views – enjoying nourishing food and, of course, the option of a well-earned hot chocolate.

Lunch is included and will be hosted at our private table in a mountain-top restaurant, offering a relaxed space to come together and recharge.

If your smaller ski group prefers to stay higher on the slopes or continue skiing in a different area, you’re also free to eat elsewhere – allowing your day to flow naturally with your group (meals taken outside of the planned group lunch would be at your own cost).

Deep, Trauma-Informed Healing

In the afternoons, you’ll be guided through EMDR-focused sessions, including psychoeducation around traumatic grief, resourcing techniques, and supported processing – helping your nervous system begin to integrate what it’s been holding.

Evening Grounding and Integration

Each day closes with a gentle evening meditation, helping you settle your system, process the day, and prepare for restorative rest.

Nourishment and Connection

Enjoy three home-made meals each day in a relaxed, supportive environment – creating space not just to eat, but to connect, reflect, and feel part of something shared.

These moments offer a natural rhythm to the day – where conversations unfold, and you can feel supported both within your smaller ski group and as part of the wider retreat.

BOOK A CALL

This retreat is designed to support you before, during, and after your time in the mountains.

Your experience begins before you even arrive.

You’ll receive a one-to-one online planning session ahead of the retreat – giving you space to prepare emotionally, ask questions, and arrive feeling grounded and ready.

After the retreat, you’ll be offered a follow-up session to help you integrate your experience into daily life – so the impact of your time here continues long after you leave the mountains.

Space to Rest and Restore

Alongside the structure of the retreat, you’ll also have access to the hotel spa and massages (at a small extra daily cost) – offering you the option to slow down, unwind, and take additional time for yourself whenever you need it.

One of the First Skiing & EMDR Retreats for Traumatic Loss – Designed for Those Ready to Move Through Grief

Nourishing Italian Food to Support Your Time on the Mountain

During the retreat, you’ll enjoy delicious, home-made, nourishing four-course Italian meals, served both at our accommodation and in carefully selected local restaurants.

Menus are centred around fresh, seasonal ingredients – think handmade pasta, rustic breads, authentic Italian pizza, and warming risottos – designed to refuel and restore you after time on the slopes.

All dietary requirements can be catered for, including gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options.

One evening, we’ll take a relaxed walk into the local village for a shared pizza night – an opportunity to unwind, connect, and enjoy the atmosphere of the mountains together.

Drinks can be purchased separately. And there are plenty of warm hot chocolate opportunities on the mountain.

I'M READY

Join us at the Skiing & EMDR Retreat if…

You’ve carried your grief for a long time –  and while life has continued, something in you knows you can’t keep moving through it in the same way.

You function on the outside, but inside, it still feels heavy – and you’re ready for something that helps you shift, not just cope.

You’ve kept going as best you can, but you’re starting to wonder who you are now –  and what life might feel like if you could reconnect with parts of yourself again.

You’re ready to meet your grief differently – not by avoiding it, but by finding a way to move with it.

You don’t want surface-level support.  You want something real – structured, supported, and grounded in approaches that actually work with trauma.

You’re open to an experience that involves both body and mind – where movement, environment, and therapy come together in a way that feels practical and powerful.

You’re no longer content just getting through the days – you want to feel moments of clarity, strength, and even glimpses of being fully present again.

You feel drawn to being in the mountains – to space, movement, and the kind of environment that allows something to shift.

And you’re ready to step into something different – with the right support around you, every step of the way.

What You Can Expect by the End of the Retreat

You feel a little lighter – more grounded in yourself – not because everything has gone, but because something inside you has shifted.

You’ve started to reconnect with parts of yourself that felt out of reach – through movement on the slopes, through moments of stillness, and through supported processing of what you’ve been carrying.

Alongside this, you will have developed your skiing skills – whether you arrive as a complete beginner or with years of experience, you’ll leave with more confidence, control, and ease on the mountain than when you arrived.

You’re leaving with practical tools and embodied experiences you can return to when things feel heavy again – ways to regulate your nervous system, meet yourself with more steadiness, and stay connected to what helps.

You’re not going home with just memories – but with a felt sense that something is now possible that wasn’t before.

You’ve experienced what it’s like to be fully supported – on and off the slopes – in a way that helps grief feel less isolating and more human.

You’re beginning to live with more presence – not defined by what happened, but informed by what you’re choosing now.

And perhaps most importantly, you’ve started to rebuild trust – in your body, your pace, your resilience, and your own path forward.

This is your time to move. To connect. To rediscover.
And to experience moments of joy again – without guilt, alongside others who truly understand.

Learn to move, move to learn and move forward with your grief.

I'M READY FOR THE DETAILS

Why I Created this Retreat

Grief – especially traumatic grief – has a way of stopping us. Of freezing time. Of making the world feel unfamiliar, even when life continues around us.

I know this not just professionally, but personally. I lost my mother too soon… and later, my brother died by suicide at just 44. That kind of loss changes you. It reshapes how you experience the world, your body, and yourself. And over time, I came to understand something important – healing doesn’t always happen by sitting still with it.

Sometimes, it begins in movement. In moments where your mind quiets. In spaces where you can breathe again. I discovered this in my own life – learning to ride a motorbike at 44, and to surf at 48. Both became unexpected ways to quieten my mind, reconnect with my body, and explore the world again after loss.

Not as an escape from grief – but as a way of rediscovering myself as a women I no longer recognised after my losses.

As a counselling psychologist, EMDR therapist, and single mum of four, I’ve spent years supporting others through traumatic grief. Again and again, I’ve seen that what people need isn’t just therapy – they need space, support, and a different way of engaging with what they’re carrying.

Many clients have told me how powerful it would be to combine this work with something more active, more embodied – something that helps them feel again, not just talk. That’s why I created this retreat.

This is not a typical retreat. And it’s not a typical ski experience. It’s a carefully held space where movement and trauma healing come together. Where you are supported not just in sessions, but throughout the day – on the slopes, over meals, and in the moments in between. Where skiing becomes more than an activity – it becomes a way to reconnect with your body, your focus, and a sense of being present again. And where EMDR helps your nervous system begin to process what has felt stuck for so long.

You won’t be asked to push past your grief or your own limitations. And you won’t be left alone in it.  Instead, you’ll be supported to move with it – in a way that feels steady, contained, and possible. To begin loosening the weight you’ve been carrying. To reconnect with parts of yourself that may feel distant. And to discover that even within grief, moments of strength – and even aliveness – can return.

If something in you is recognising this… If there’s a quiet sense that this might be the kind of step you need – You’re very welcome here. And if you’re unsure, you’re welcome to reach out and we can talk it through together.

Why EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy developed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. Recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Psychological Association (APA), and NICE (UK), EMDR is widely recognized as a frontline treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex grief.

Unlike traditional talk therapies, EMDR targets the neurological roots of trauma. Through bilateral stimulation it helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional charge while integrating them more adaptively. Research shows that EMDR can significantly decrease symptoms of anxiety, flashbacks, guilt, and emotional numbness.

Suicide loss often includes trauma responses: shock, unresolved questions, and intrusive memories. These can remain stuck in the nervous system long after the event. EMDR supports the body and brain in completing the processing that didn’t happen at the time of the trauma.

At the retreat, we use a modified group EMDR protocol informed by the latest research in trauma therapy. It allows for deep, contained emotional work without requiring participants to speak about their loss in detail. This approach offers both the benefits of EMDR and the healing power of community – within a safe, supportive space.

To our knowledge, this is the first EMDR grief retreat in the world specifically created for women bereaved by suicide. Because this kind of loss needs a different kind of healing – and you’re not alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

This retreat is designed for those who have experienced traumatic loss.

This may include suicide, overdose, homicide, or other sudden and deeply impactful losses that can leave you feeling overwhelmed, shocked, or stuck in the aftermath.

While each person’s experience is unique, many people navigating traumatic grief share similar challenges – such as intrusive memories, guilt, unanswered questions, or a sense that life has been fundamentally altered.

This retreat brings together people who understand the complexity of that kind of loss, even if the circumstances differ.

If you’re unsure whether your experience fits, you’re very welcome to reach out – we’re happy to talk it through with you.

This retreat isn’t the right fit for everyone. It’s designed for those who have moved beyond the very early stages of grief and feel stable enough to gently process remaining memories, while also beginning to look toward the future. Please trust your intuition about whether this retreat feels like the right step for you.

You’ll need to feel ready to face your feelings and be open to exploring how to transform your pain into purpose. If you hear a strong “Yes” inside, please complete the form on the next booking page. We’ll then get in touch to confirm your spot and share details about the deposit, or reach out to arrange a call if we feel a conversation would be helpful before moving forward.

Yes – you’re very welcome to bring a friend, partner, or family member for support.

They may have experienced the loss directly, or not – both are welcome. What matters most is that you feel supported during your time here.

If they choose to join you:

  • They’ll be included in the skiing part of the retreat each day
  • They’re welcome to join meals and the wider group experience

For the afternoon EMDR sessions:

  • They can choose whether or not to take part
  • If they prefer not to engage in the therapeutic work, they’re free to take personal time to rest, explore, or use the spa

There’s no pressure either way – we want this to feel supportive and comfortable for both of you.

When booking, simply let us know who you’d like to room with (or be near), and we’ll do our best to accommodate your preferences.

The sessions during the retreat are designed to gently support you in reconnecting with your truth and beginning to shape a life that feels more aligned, meaningful, and uniquely yours.

You’re always welcome to take part — but you’ll never be pressured. If there’s a session you’d rather sit out, that’s absolutely okay.

We’ll invite you to stretch a little beyond what feels familiar, because often that’s where the healing starts.

But more than anything, we want you to feel safe, supported, and at ease during your time here. This is your retreat, and your well-being comes first.

Flights are not included, so you’ll need to arrange your own travel to Bergamo (Milan) Airport

You will need to book your flights and send us confirmation before your place is confirmed.

From there, you can either make your own way to the resort or we will organise a group transfer at a small cost (£100 each way) if you arrive on the 17th March  by 1300 and depart on the 23rd March at 1230 for flights leaving at 16:55.

We recommend booking your flights as early as you can – there are often very reasonable options available (for example, recent return flights from London have been around £100).

To make things easier, we’ll set up a dedicated WhatsApp group ahead of the retreat where you can:

  • Share flight details
  • Coordinate with others
  • Ask any travel-related questions

If you choose to arrive earlier or leave later than the main retreat dates, you’ll need to arrange your own airport transfers.

Please note that the optional group transfers are provided from Bergamo Airport only.

This retreat offers a unique approach to EMDR, blending trauma-informed group EMDR practices with a nurturing, retreat-based environment.

During the retreat, you’ll take part in structured group EMDR sessions that follow core principles of standard EMDR therapy — helping your brain safely reprocess traumatic memories, reduce emotional overwhelm, and make space for healing.

This retreat offers trauma-informed pre-retreat planning and group EMDR sessions designed to help you gently reprocess painful memories, release emotional overwhelm, and begin to heal after suicide loss.

All EMDR work is delivered under my accreditation with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), ensuring that these sessions are safe, ethical, and grounded in clinical expertise.

While traditional EMDR therapy is usually delivered one-to-one — and often costs between £90–£150 per session — this retreat gives you access to the same core process in a carefully facilitated small group setting, at a significantly lower cost.

You’ll experience multiple EMDR-based sessions throughout the retreat, meaning you could receive the equivalent of several weeks of 1:1 therapy — all while being supported in a peaceful, nourishing environment.

Alongside EMDR, you’ll also take part in holistic, non-clinical activities such as coaching, creative expression, and gentle movement. These are not therapy and are not delivered under BPS/HCPC regulation, but they are designed to support your nervous system and emotional wellbeing during the healing process.

Many women find that the combination of expert-led EMDR and community-based support not only accelerates their healing, but also saves them time, money, and emotional burnout from trying to do it alone in weekly sessions.

If you’re unsure whether group EMDR is right for you, you’re welcome to reach out for a private chat.

No – you do not need to be highly fit or athletic to join this retreat.

Skiing is a physical activity, but it is also highly adaptable and will be tailored to your level, whether you are a complete beginner, returning after a break, or already confident on the slopes.

You will be placed in small groups (maximum of 6 people) based on experience and ability, and supported by experienced ski instructors who will guide you at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you.

The focus is not on performance, speed, or ability – but on building confidence, finding your rhythm, and enjoying time in the mountains in a supported way.

A reasonable level of general mobility (e.g. being comfortable walking, moving on uneven ground, and managing stairs) is helpful, but no prior skiing fitness is required.

We do recommend, where possible, that complete beginners consider a few basic skiing lessons on a dry slope or indoor snow centre before the retreat. This is simply to help you feel more confident and comfortable on arrival – but it is not essential.

If you are unsure, you are very welcome to get in touch and we can talk it through with you.

Your Next Chapter Begins In Motion

You don’t have to stay in survival mode.
And you don’t have to figure this out alone.

Here, healing happens in movement – on the slopes, in your body, and in the spaces between.

If something in you is stirring… a quiet sense that you’re ready for something different… trust it.

This is a fully supported space to begin again – at your own pace, with people who understand.

Places are limited, and I would be honoured to support you on this next step.
