When suicide touches you and your family, the shock, silence, and sorrow often ripple through every relationship.

Each member carries their own version of the story, often isolated in their pain.

While traditional talk therapy can help, it may feel too slow or disconnected when your whole family is struggling to function — or to speak the unspeakable.

Our Family EMDR Intensive Weekends offer a deep, immersive healing experience designed specifically for professional women and their families affected by suicide loss.

Held in peaceful, supportive settings, these weekends provide a safe and structured space to begin processing the trauma together — while also giving each person room to heal at their own pace.

What Is a Family EMDR Intensive?

This is a 3-day (Friday–Sunday) in-person therapeutic experience facilitated by Dr. Sue Egan, a specialist in suicide grief, trauma therapy, EMDR and coaching. The weekend includes a combination of:

  • Psychoeducation coaching on trauma, suicide grief, and emotional regulation.
  • Grounding and co-regulation techniques to take home and continue the healing.

Each family’s programme is tailored to your unique needs, relationships, and history.

What You’ll Experience

EMDR is delivered from a systemic perspective – that is that no one is an island and we all affect each other and how we may feel and grieve. During the pre-assessment appointment we will discuss the families suitability for EMDR and formulate plans for the weekend with a focus on safety. Any sessions will be gently adapted for age and emotional readiness.

Family reconnection through supported conversation and shared rituals of remembrance.

Education on trauma and grief, so you can understand what’s happening in your brain, body, and relationships,
Tools to help you cope together, not apart — including language for hard conversations and techniques for when grief hits unexpectedly.

This is not a “fix” or a quick solution. It’s the beginning of understanding and a release — a deep breath into a new way of relating after loss and knowing how to move forward.

  • Why This Matters

When families grieve in silence or conflict, trauma often deepens over time. But with the right support and setting, healing becomes possible — together.

Let this weekend be the space where your family begins to reconnect, remember, and move forward with greater compassion.

These weekends are designed for families who are grieving the suicide of a loved one. This might include:

    • Parents and teens processing the same loss from different perspectives.
    • Families with children needing age-appropriate emotional support.
    • Adult siblings or extended family members navigating shared grief.

Not every family is suitable to undertake EMDR and your families safety is our number one priority. Please book an assessment to discuss your family and their needs in more detail.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a trauma-focused therapy that helps the brain reprocess painful memories so they no longer feel overwhelming. For families affected by suicide, EMDR can reduce flashbacks, guilt, numbness, anxiety, and unresolved trauma — allowing space for the natural mourning process to unfold. Although there is no magic fixes, EMDR gives your body time and space to heal what has happened and research has proven it can make a difference to all types of traumatic experiences.

We also use play-based EMDR with children to support them through creative, non-verbal expression.

We typically work with small dyads or triads at a time (e.g., parent/teen, couple, or parent/child) to ensure emotional safety and space for deep work. However, larger family units can be accommodated through a carefully structured schedule with time for both joint and individual sessions.

We’ll discuss what’s best for your unique family in our pre-assessment consultation.

That’s okay. Children often express grief differently — through play, behaviour, or silence. Our approach respects their pace and uses play therapy, art, and gentle relational techniques to create emotional safety.

It’s deep, but never forceful. The intensive format allows for more focused healing in a supportive and attuned environment. We move at a pace that respects each participant’s nervous system, and sessions are always trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate.

Most intensives run for 3 consecutive days, customized to your family. A typical day includes:

    • Individual EMDR sessions for each participant
    • Dyadic or family sessions
    • Rest and integration time
    • Grounding work
    • Psychoeducation around grief, trauma and how children and teenagers may react.

We’ll provide a detailed schedule once we understand your needs.

Not at all. Some families come after years of therapy, others are new to this kind of work. We’ll meet you wherever you are — with compassion and clarity. We will

    You’ll receive:

    • A tailored aftercare and integration plan.
    • Resources for grief support and trauma care.
    • Referrals to trusted therapists if needed.
    • A post review consultation online 2 weeks after the weekend.

We want you to feel supported long after the weekend ends.

Our intensives are held in a peaceful, private therapeutic space, designed to feel safe, calm, and comfortable which we will discuss on our planning call. Your family will stay in self-catered accommodation Friday to Sunday for 3 nights.

It starts with a 90 minute consulation where we will:

    1. Explore your family’s needs.
    2. Assess your families suitability for EMDR Intensives.
    3. Following this, if we decide this is the best thing for you and your family, we will plan the weekend. You will need to complete numerous forms which are a very important part of preparing for our weekend together.
